There is a 2nd ltr., dated 8/26/1985, Washougal, Wa.; It's to Delmer and Marie Bault.;
Dear Cousins,
Thought I'd better write you a line to tell you of some of the happenings since I last heard from you.
I got out of school June 12 and left the following morning for Iowa. I drove all of this by myself. The reason I went was to see my older sister Helen who had been in the hospital at Council Bluffs since Feb. And they had moved her to a nursing home in the Bluffs. She was a diabetic and had heart failure. They had removed her left leg and she could not move her body. She had to be lifted. I arrived there on Sun pm. She was so glad to see me. This was June 19th and she lived until July 1, before she passed away. I'm so thankful I was able to
go see her on her last days here. While I was there cousin, May also passed away. She had cancer. She was uncle Edwin's oldest girl. A lot of sadness but their pain is over.
I left there 30th of July and was in that terrible storm in Cheyenne Wy. It was really bad and sorta got to me. But now after a lot of rest I'm much better and plan to go to school again this year to help the little ones read.
Did you have another reunion this year? They had one in South Dakota while I was out there. At the reunion in Iowa Aug. 11th some of the John Thompsons from Kansas was there. A cousin Letha McFarland wrote me recently and informed me.
Guess this is all for now.
Your Cousin
Ruby L. Smith
