A letter in file; Dear Luella; 9/10/1974; It was so nice to hear from you and thanks so much for the obituary of Grama Thompson- I remember her real well as she lived with us several years before she went to aunt Annie Waaga's and we came by wagon and horses to North Dakota to my dads (Carl Thompson) homestead in 1905- Theodore your dad was with us there a lot. We called him Ted - he helped my dad a lot. and we all loved Ted. I could probly tell you lots of funny little stories about him and us- My first term of school was spent in the same school as Sanna. Bert and a lot of cousins went to. So I enjoyed your letter so much hearing about all our folks back there- Bert went with Lloyd and I to get married as a witness Sept 15-1915- My folks come to Oregon in May 1915-But Lloyd and I stayed in N. D. until the fall of 1918 we had 6 children- Gennive born 1917 died 1933. Leone born 1919. Now living in Independence Ore. Gladys born 1921 lives here in Hermiston, Bernice born 1923 lives in Spokane Wash. Lois born 1926 lives on Vashon Island near Seattle. Then our boy Lloyd Jr. born May 1 1930- he drowned in 1948 . Then I lost my husband (Lloyd Sr.) 11 months ago yesterday- and life goes on. I expect Arlie or Millen can tell you more about the rest of the Thompsons than I can, I did get some information from dad before he died but don't know where papers are now- if I run across them I'll try and send them to you- I overdid and got sick with pneumonia and ended having a stroke just before Lloyd passed away had to go to his funeral in a wheel chair. But I am so glad I am able to care for myself now. Gladys works here in town, so comes and has lunch with me every day and to do little things for me- Ora came over sunday- brot his wife and her mother- and he told me about hearing from you, he is going to take me down to see Arlie and Pearl about Sept 19- I am getting a catrack in my right eye so want to go before I have to have it operated on and while the weather is good and I can see things. Ora has been so wounderfull to me- I guess our fall weather is just around the corner. they said on T V tonite there was new snow in the mts. I don't like snow and cold so much any more- One of my son's in law is a carpenter and works on some big potatoe sheds 100'x400'- They are suposed to be finished by Nov 1 I forget how many tons of potatoes each shed will hold- There are 1,000s of acres on both sides of the Columbia here of potatoes, those and cattle and hay of cours some of our big crops- and we have the Umatilla Army Depot 12 miles out so this country is growing o yes we have acres and acres of melons. 1 year a man or 3 men I should say took three big truck loads of melons up your way- They sold trucks and all then flew back- Now my eyes are about to give out to nite so I must close for this time. Hoping you and yours are all well As Always Erna P. S.
